Our vibrant city, view from Mt. Benson

Our City, Our Voices.

REIMAGINE NANAIMO is our opportunity to create a collective vision and road map for our future City. Together, we will identify our strengths to appreciate what we have today, and look forward to new opportunities to strengthen and grow our community. As our population grows to 100,000 residents and beyond, we need to collectively imagine how our spaces and places evolve to better meet the needs of our natural environment and of all who live here.

What kind of city will Nanaimo be in 20 years and beyond?

Our community plans will be built with ideas from individuals, groups, and organizations through their participation in REIMAGINE NANAIMO. To be successful, we need voices from across our community to share in the conversation. A key aim of this process is to be accessible to everyone – regardless of your age, your time constraints, or your knowledge base – it's easy to be part of building our community vision. We are committed to cultural safety and humility, LGBTQ2S+, accessibility and inclusiveness. The plans that we create together will guide the decisions that shape our City over the coming years.

Nanaimo is for all of us. Let's reimagine our future – together.

Hearing from all those in our community is so important, yet it can be challenging. There are often obstacles to participation and we want to break down barriers so that everyone has equal opportunity to be involved in a way that works for them. Can you help?

We’re seeking organizations and individuals interested in volunteering as Community Representatives who are willing to help us spread the word through their networks and encourage people to share feedback in a way that works for them. Community Representatives can support in many different ways: from sharing information about REIMAGINE NANAIMO through their established networks to bringing participants together in a meeting to helping identify and remove barriers that may keep people from participating. All levels of support will be welcomed. We’ll be hosting initial meetings with Community Representatives in mid-August to discuss.

Contact us now at reimagine@nanaimo.ca or by phone at 250.755.4464 to learn more or let us know if you’re interested in being a Community Representative for REIMAGINE NANAIMO! We’re excited to hear from you!

Looking for something fun (and a little educational) to do? Check out our KidsPlan Activities Pack.

It is important for young people to take part in processes that affect their community. Planning is all about the future – the decisions we make today will define the future of the city our young inherit.

The KidsPlan Activities Pack includes seven activities that kids (and adults) of all ages can do to learn about community planning and think about how they imagine Nanaimo in the future. We would really love to see what kids come up with! The pack includes instructions on how to share kids' work with us so we can include their ideas in our planning and post ideas up on REIMAGINE NANAIMO for others to see.

Please note: the deadline for online survey submissions is Monday, November 30, 2020

REIMAGINE NANAIMO is an integrated process, exploring many topics that are important to our community's future. There is a lot we want to learn from you on each of these topics. But we also know you have limited time, so we've divided the topics into separate, shorter questionnaires below. All questionnaires will be open through our entire Phase 1 engagement that runs through October. We encourage you to complete each one, although you are welcome to participate in as many or as few as you'd like. Your personal information will remain confidential. If you feel uncomfortable with sharing your name in forthcoming forums and chats, you are welcome to use a pseudonym (pen name) as your username.

    The following questionnaires are included:

REIMAGINE NANAIMO Ideas Questionnaire: This is our main questionnaire that asks overall about your thoughts and experiences in Nanaimo. If you only complete one survey, make sure to do this one!

REIMAGINE NANAIMO Topic Questionnaires: These are our topic questionnaires seeking more in-depth thoughts and insights into key topics for Nanaimo's future. We encourage you to complete any or all of these.
